Chapter IThe workshop

The tools to build a world.

On Verhaler, your characters can talk with the reader, and a roll of the dice can change how a chapter ends. Try it below!

Dialogue

Branch a conversation through layered choices.

Give a character a persona and a tree of lines. The reader chooses what to say; each choice opens the next layer of the conversation, shifts the character's mood, or reroutes the story. Every playthrough can take a different path.

Peter Coffin leans over the jawbone counter, wiping a villanous green glass, a wide toothy grin spreading as he eyes your patched boots.
Aye, what'll it be? A bed, a bowl o' chowder, or just the warmth o' the fire? Ye look fair frozen, friend.
InterludeOn the shelf

Stories ready to play.

A glimpse of what writers here have already published.

Couldn't load the shelf.

Something interrupted the request. Give it a moment and try again.

Chapter IIThe part nobody warns you about

Stop building the tool. Write the book.

Interactive stories have a way of turning writers into engineers. The story needs an engine, the engine needs a website, the website needs a payment page - and a year later you're maintaining all three instead of finishing chapter twelve. We'd rather you skip that year.

An engine you don't have to write

Decisions, dice, combat, trade screens, triggers - you set them up from menus while you write. There's no scripting language to learn first.

Publishing is one click

Your book gets a cover, a store page, and reviews, and readers can pick it up on any device without losing their place.

The paperwork is ours

If you decide to charge for your book, payments, VAT, and refunds are all handled, and your royalty lands in your bank through Stripe.

Verhaler is the publishing stack you'd otherwise end up building, minus the year it would take. And it isn't finished: writers who show up now get a say in what gets built next. Join the community

Chapter IIIThe price

Free is the whole plan.

There are no tiers and nothing sits behind a trial. Everything you saw in the workshop is free for every writer, and stays free. If you sell your book, we keep a flat 20%. That's the only money Verhaler makes, and selling is optional.

While you write

  • Every component in the workshop, from dice to dialogue
  • A wiki for your world's people, places, and things
  • Publishing, your storefront page, and hosting
  • Publish chapter by chapter: publish the start, keep writing as readers react
  • As many books as you want to write
  • The forum, the handbook, and a person who answers

No card on file. Nothing to cancel.

If you choose to sell

One copy of your book5.00
Verhaler's flat 20%-1.00

covers the card fees, refunds, and the invoice paperwork. Where a buyer's country charges VAT, it comes off the top first, and you keep 80% of what's left. If a Reader buys through one of our mobile apps, the app store that routed the purchase charges a service fee on that sale, taken from the Writer's share.

Chapter IVThe people

A small, human corner of the internet.

Verhaler is built in the open, by a writer, with the writers who use it. Ask a question and a person answers, usually the person who wrote the code. The forum is small enough that nothing sinks, and the roadmap is short enough to bend.

EpilogueHouse rules

Fiction is a human game. We keep it that way.

The teller has always been a person. We wrote that into the house rules.

House rule
No AI-written books. Ever.

If a chatbot wrote it, it doesn't belong here. Reports go to a human moderator who actually reads the book, and machine-written work comes down.

House rule
Your words train nothing.

We don't sell your writing, lease it, or feed it to anyone's model. We don't even have one of our own.

House rule
Free means free.

Writing and publishing cost nothing, forever. The only money Verhaler ever sees is a fifth of a sale you chose to make.

Every story is a map of choices.
